General FAQ

Common questions about Grūps App, getting started, and how the app works.

What is Grūps App?

Grūps App is a group communication and coordination app for teams, clubs, families, and organizations. It brings together chat, events, announcements, photos, member management, location sharing, and more in one place — keeping your group organized without juggling multiple apps.

Is Grūps App free to use?

Yes. Grūps App has a Free plan with no time limit. Paid plans unlock additional group types with larger member limits, more features, and more storage. See Subscription Plans for a full comparison.

What platforms does Grūps App run on?

Grūps App is available as:

Your account and all group data sync automatically across all devices and platforms.

What is the demo group I see when I first sign up?

Every new Grūps App account automatically gets a Demo Group — a pre-built group seeded with sample content across all features (chat, posts, calendar, polls, Q&A, lists, recognitions, and more). It's there so you can explore the app before setting up a real group. The demo group appears in its own section at the top of your groups list with a teal border and an expiry countdown. It lasts 90 days, and you'll get a warning at day 75. See Your demo group for full details.

Does the demo group count against my group or admin slot limits?

No. The demo group is excluded from your admin slot usage entirely. Creating or keeping the demo group does not affect how many real groups you can create or admin.

What happens when the demo group expires?

After 90 days, the demo group is either archived (if you created any content in it) or deleted (if you never interacted with it). Archived means the group becomes read-only — your content is preserved but no new activity can happen. You'll receive a warning notification and email at day 75 so you have time to create a real group before the demo expires.

How do I create an account?

Download the Grūps App or go to the Grūps App website and tap Sign up. Enter your name, email address, and a password. You'll receive a verification email — tap the link to activate your account. See Getting Started for a step-by-step walkthrough.

Do I need an account to join a group?

Yes. You need a Grūps App account to be a member of any group. When you receive a group invitation, tapping the link takes you through account creation (if you don't have one) and then directly into the group.

How do I join a group?

There are three ways to join a group:

There is no public directory of groups — you need an invitation, a shareable link, or the direct URL for the group's page.

Can I join a group without being invited?

Yes, if the group has join requests enabled. Visit the group's page and tap Request to Join. You can include an optional message to introduce yourself. The admin will review your request and you'll be notified of the outcome. If the group does not have join requests enabled, you can only join by direct invitation from an admin.

What happens if my join request is rejected — can I try again?

Yes. If your request is rejected you'll receive a push notification and email with the outcome (and a reason, if the admin provided one). You can submit a new request to the same group at any time after being rejected — there's no lockout period. Whether to approve a follow-up request is at the admin's discretion.

What are the different group types?

Every group has a type that describes its purpose: Family, Standard, Club, Team, or Org. The type you choose affects the maximum number of members the group can have. It also determines how many groups of that type you can be an admin of on your plan — for example, the Free plan includes one admin slot each for Family and Standard groups. Group type is set when creating the group and cannot be changed afterward. See Group Types for a full breakdown.

Can I be in more than one group?

Yes. You can be a member of as many groups as you are invited to. How many groups you can own/admin depends on your plan. Each group is completely independent — different members, different settings, different content.

How do I switch between groups?

Tap the group selector (your group name or the grid icon) at the top of the app to see all your groups and switch between them. Each group maintains its own state — you return to where you left off in each group.

What's the difference between a group owner, admin, and member?

The Owner created the group and has full control, including deleting the group and transferring ownership. Admins can manage all content, members, and settings. Co-admins have the same access as admins except they cannot delete the group or demote other admins. Members can participate in everything the admin has enabled. See Roles & Permissions.

What happens if I don't log in for a long time?

Your account and group memberships remain intact regardless of inactivity. Your group content is always there when you return. Groups can be set to Dormant or Archived state by their admin if the group is no longer active, but this does not affect your account.

Is Grūps App available in my language?

Grūps App supports 12 languages: English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, German, Italian, Russian, Chinese (Traditional), Arabic, and Hebrew. Arabic and Hebrew use right-to-left layout. Change your language in Settings → Language. See Language & Region.

Why do I have to agree to terms before joining a group?

The group admin has enabled Terms & Agreement, which requires new members to read and accept the group's rules before joining. A modal will appear showing the rules (as text or a PDF document). You must tap I Agree to complete the join or Leave Group to cancel. If the admin updates the rules after you've already joined, you'll be asked to accept the new version on your next visit to the group.

Does Grūps App track my location?

Only if your group's location policy allows it — and only if you choose to share. Groups can have one of three policies: No Location (no location data ever collected), Check-in Only (you manually check in at events — no tracking), or Live Tracking (you can share your real-time GPS with the group, but it's always your choice). Within a Live Tracking group, each member individually controls whether they share their location. You can see your group's policy in Group Settings → Location.

Where can I get more help?

This Help Center covers all features in detail. If you can't find your answer here, contact Grūps App support through the app: go to Settings → Help & Support to send a message to the support team.
