Grūps App v0.10.0 is the biggest release in a while. First-time setup is now a proper guided experience, events have been redesigned from the ground up with QR check-in and guest tracking, and the maps engine has been overhauled so trip routes actually follow roads. Here's everything that changed.
Getting Started
New users — and anyone who wants a refresher — now get a real introduction to the app. A welcome carousel walks you through Grūps App on first launch, followed by a guided tour with separate steps for admins and members covering Chat, Calendar, Posts, Q&A, and more. As you encounter features for the first time, contextual popups introduce Polls, Calendar, and Photo Albums right when they're relevant. If you ever want to revisit any of it, tap Help in the menu to replay a tour or open the documentation anytime.
Check-Ins & Events
The event details page has been redesigned with a photo grid, a chat preview, and a full attendee list — everything you need at a glance. The headline addition is QR code check-in, which supports three modes depending on your event:
- Members only — existing group members scan to mark themselves attending
- Public anonymous — anyone can check in without providing details
- Public with name/email — guests enter their information when they scan
Guests who check in via QR appear in their own dedicated list and are included in the total attendee count. You can download the event QR code as an image or print a redesigned flyer — useful for posting at a venue or sharing in a group chat.
Maps & Location
Trip maps are dramatically more accurate. Routes now follow roads rather than drawing straight lines between GPS points, and jitter from imprecise readings is smoothed out so the path looks clean. Live trips display a road-name status — something like "Tracking near Hwy 50" — and the route updates in real time as you move. Avatar markers glide smoothly between positions and show a pulsing ring while in motion, so it's easy to tell at a glance who's actively moving.
A few reliability improvements round things out. Geofence notifications no longer fire repeatedly for the same crossing, and they now reach Android users even when active location sharing is off. On iOS, background location tracking recovers automatically if it silently stops — no restart required. Tapping a notification now deep-links directly to the relevant chat, event, poll, or announcement, even on a fresh app launch.
Support
You can now submit a support ticket without leaving the app. Tap Report an Issue from the menu, describe what happened, and it goes straight to the team. Replies and status updates arrive via the Grūps App Support group, with push and email alerts so you don't have to check back manually.
Groups & Navigation
The My Groups page now shows all your groups in a single unified list, with a shield icon marking any you manage as an admin. A new sidebar gives quick access to groups, settings, and activity from My Groups, the Admin Dashboard, your Profile, and other key screens. Official Grūp system groups also now display a "Grūps App" badge so they're easy to identify.
Bug Fixes & Polish
Several visual and notification issues have been resolved. The iOS status bar text was invisible on launch and headers overlapped on notched phones — both are fixed. Chat previews now show the sender's name, and event photo grids display correctly. Background blur, mute and quiet-hours settings, and stray notification toasts have all been corrected.
Update to v0.10.0 to get everything above. If something feels off, tap Report an Issue from the menu — we read every submission.
