Grūps App v0.9.11 is a broad reliability release with meaningful improvements across location tracking, notifications, lists, and the general feel of the app. Here's everything that's changed.
Location & Maps
Location and maps have seen the most work this release. Tracking is now user-based rather than group-based, which means your trips and location history show up correctly across all your groups with no duplicates. Location history also syncs as soon as you bring the app to the foreground, rather than waiting up to an hour for a background update to arrive.
Several other rough edges have been smoothed out:
- Geofence alerts now reach you even when you haven't opened the Map screen
- The map no longer shows a blank grey screen on slower connections — if the primary tiles can't load, it automatically switches to a backup style
- Trip thumbnails now have a clean light background instead of appearing solid black
- Tapping "Find my location" no longer prompts for permission on devices that have already granted it
Notifications & Chat
Two notification issues that have been causing either unnecessary noise or unwanted silence are now fixed. You'll no longer receive a push notification for your own chat messages, and geofence alerts are no longer accidentally suppressed for the person who is actually crossing the boundary.
A "Sending photo…" indicator now appears while an image is uploading to chat, so there's no more guessing whether your photo is on its way.
Groups & UI
The group public page has a fresh new look, with a cleaner call-to-action, a value highlights strip, and a Grūps App footer. Unread indicators are now consistently blue across the home screen, chat, and badges. A few smaller display issues have also been resolved:
- Dropdown menus now show the correct background colour in both light and dark mode
- Long group or chat names no longer push the menu button off the edge of the screen
- Skeleton loading screens now fill the full page width instead of appearing as a narrow strip
Lists
Two list improvements that should make day-to-day use noticeably smoother. You can now change a list's type after it's been created, right from the dropdown menu — no need to delete and start over. Reordering list items also now works correctly on both iOS and Android, with items following your finger as expected.
Forms & Buttons
All create forms — polls, events, reservations, posts, and recognitions — now share a consistent layout: Cancel on the left, Submit on the right, both equal width with a pill shape. A small change, but it makes the app feel a lot more coherent.
Report an Issue
You can now report a problem without leaving the app. Tap the hamburger menu on any page, choose Report an Issue, describe what happened, and hit submit — your report goes straight to the Grūps App team.
Other Fixes
A handful of stability and usability improvements round out the release:
- Clicking a beta invite link now automatically fills in your invite code and opens the sign-up form — no more copying and pasting
- The app no longer logs you out unexpectedly after being closed or left in the background
- Cropping a profile photo on mobile no longer causes the page to scroll around underneath the crop tool
- Recognition cards in chat now expand to the correct full width on real devices
- A new Developer section in Settings lets you view your location tracking log history from the past 7 days
Update to v0.9.11 to get everything above. If something still feels off, the new Report an Issue option in the menu is the fastest way to let us know — we read every submission.
