Grūps App v0.9.6 introduces group types that shape how each group works, clearer location sharing policies, and SMS notifications — alongside a meaningful round of fixes to reminders, maps, and core reliability.

Group Types

Groups now have a defined type from the moment they're created. When setting up a new group, you choose from five options — Family, Standard, Club, Team, or Org — each with its own member limits and features suited to that context. Your group's type is shown as a badge on the group info screen and on your groups overview, and the pricing and plan screens now include a clear breakdown of how many groups of each type you can create per subscription tier.

Location Sharing

Location sharing has been rethought around clarity and consistency. Every group now has a permanent location policy — No Location, Check-in Only, or Live Tracking — set at creation and locked in place, so members always know exactly what they signed up for when they join. Free tier groups cannot enable Live Tracking; the option is clearly shown as locked in the setup wizard.

Several map and tracking improvements arrive alongside this:

  • Maps now display correctly styled tiles instead of a blank white canvas, and dark mode applies properly
  • Trip history lines are now wider, and each member's route appears in their own distinct colour
  • The trips button is now correctly labelled "Trips", and map control buttons show a visible highlight on hover
  • Location sharing now continues uploading your position even after the app is fully closed and relaunched on both iPhone and Android
  • On Android, location sharing automatically resumes after a device reboot without needing to reopen the app

SMS Notifications

Two new SMS features bring more timely communication to groups. Members on Pro and above can now receive text message reminders for upcoming events, and admins on Team and above can send urgent announcements via SMS to members who have opted in. Both can be toggled on or off individually in your group member settings, so members stay in control of what they receive. A related fix ensures that verifying your phone number in your profile now saves correctly and persists after you navigate away.

Notifications & Reminders

Event reminders have been overhauled for reliability. Duplicate reminders are no longer scheduled, and reminders now correctly reach members in public groups — two issues that had been causing missed or repeated notifications. Push notifications from scheduled event reminders also now send correctly instead of failing silently. Finally, the reminder type previously labelled "Both" is now clearly labelled Email & Push Notification.

Bug Fixes & Polish

This release also clears up a handful of issues affecting everyday use:

  • Signing in on iPhone now works correctly
  • Scrolling on the Create Event page no longer gets stuck when your cursor or finger is over the image upload area
  • A loading error banner that appeared on first launch for some users is now fixed
