Grūps App v0.9.8 is a focused release built around making the app faster, more reliable, and less frustrating to use day-to-day. There are no sweeping new features this time — instead, we've gone deep on performance, ironed out bugs that have been bothering people, and tightened up security across the board.
Performance & Speed
The biggest theme of this release is speed. Sign-in and session restore now happen in parallel, so you reach your group noticeably faster after opening the app. Smarter caching and fewer network round-trips mean pages load with less waiting, and navigating between sections of a group no longer triggers unnecessary data reloads.
A few more targeted improvements add up quickly:
- Profile pictures now load at the size they're actually displayed, saving data and rendering faster in lists and feeds
- The 3D recognition card animation loads on demand when you tap it, rather than on page load — this alone had a meaningful effect on page responsiveness
- Chat scrolling on mobile is now smooth, with significantly less stutter and jank
- Group pages show key content earlier on first load, so the page feels alive sooner
Chat
Two reliability fixes make chat noticeably better. Loading older messages is now more dependable — messages no longer get skipped or appear out of order when scrolling back through history. And tapping a recognition attachment in chat no longer throws an error.
Navigation & Layout
A few navigation pain points have been resolved. My Group Settings now appears in both the hamburger menu and Group Info on mobile, so there's no more hunting around for it. Tapping "All Chats" on mobile now correctly takes you to the chats list. Groups that haven't switched on every feature will also no longer see "Feature off" labels cluttering their navigation settings for Albums, Polls, Q&A, Recognitions, and Files.
Posts & Content
Post titles were showing as "undefined" when picking a post to share in chat — that's fixed. Announcements have also had a visual refresh: full text is always visible now, active announcements are displayed in bold, and past ones are softly faded to help you tell at a glance what's current.
Notifications & Deep Links
Three fixes here that together make a real difference. Push notifications for announcements now correctly reach members who have push enabled, even if they've turned off email notifications — previously those members were being missed. Logging out on one device no longer accidentally disables push notifications on your other devices. And tapping a grup.app link on iOS or Android now opens the app directly instead of dropping you into a browser.
Files
Deleting multiple files at once is now dramatically faster. If you've been putting off cleaning up a cluttered file section, now's a good time.
Security
This release includes multiple under-the-hood security improvements: stronger authentication checks, safer file access controls, and tightened permissions across the app. Nothing that changes how the app feels to use, but meaningful improvements to how your account and data are protected.
