Grūps App v0.9.9 brings meaningful improvements across the board — a much more polished trips experience, broad performance gains throughout the app, and a clean sweep of bug fixes that have been on our list for a while. Here's what's changed.

Maps & Trips

The trips experience has had the most attention this release, and it shows. Your trips list now organises journeys under date headers — Today, Yesterday, and weekday names — so finding a specific trip is a quick scan rather than a hunt. Trips are sorted newest-first, so your most recent activity is always right at the top.

The map itself is cleaner too. It starts empty and only draws a route when you tap a trip card — tap a different card and the route swaps instantly. No more visual clutter from routes you weren't looking for.

Under the hood, the tracking data is more trustworthy:

  • Trip durations now reflect time actually spent moving, not time sitting parked or stationary
  • GPS "phantom points" caused by signal jumps are filtered out, giving you smooth and accurate routes
  • Background location tracking on iOS now works reliably even after the app has been fully closed and restarted
  • Trip thumbnails display correctly in the list

Speed & Performance

Across the app, pages feel noticeably more responsive. The core change is that multiple pieces of data now load at the same time rather than one after another — Group Home, Calendar, Chat, Lists, Q&A, Check-ins, Reservations, Maps, Resources, and Posts all benefit from this.

A few more targeted wins are worth calling out:

  • Navigating back to the Group Home page now renders instantly from a short-lived cache, so you're never waiting on content you just saw
  • List previews load faster by fetching only a small preview of items rather than the full list
  • Member group counts and Q&A open-question counts now load in a single request instead of one per item, which makes a real difference on busier groups

Bug Fixes

Several small but noticeable issues have been resolved. Images in group chat load correctly again after a regression that had been affecting them. Scrolling no longer gets accidentally locked on certain screens, and a banner alignment issue has been corrected so content lines up as it should.

We also tracked down a problem where several screens were loading their data twice on first visit — a quiet inefficiency that was doubling unnecessary network requests. That's now fixed.

Security

This release tightens up the app's security policy to meet industry-recommended standards, protecting against common web vulnerabilities. Static assets like icons and images are also now served with stricter access controls. Nothing that changes how the app feels to use, but solid improvements to how your data is handled behind the scenes.

Smaller Download

One last thing worth mentioning: the app is about 4 MB lighter to download and launch, thanks to trimming files that aren't needed upfront. A small thing, but a nice one.
