Announcements

Important messages that stay visible to every member — they don't get buried in chat.

What are Announcements?

Announcements are short, prominent messages created by group admins for the whole group to see. Unlike chat messages, announcements persist at the top of the group's view and stay visible until they expire or are removed.

Use announcements for:

Admins only Only group owners, co-admins, and admins can create, edit, or delete announcements. All members can view them.

Viewing Announcements

Active announcements appear prominently on the group home page, typically as a banner above the activity feed. Tap an announcement to read it in full.

To see all announcements — both upcoming and past — open the Announcements section from the group's feature navigation. This view shows:

Creating an Announcement Admin

  1. Open Announcements
Go to the Announcements section in your group's navigation, then tap the + button in the top-right corner.
  2. Write the message
Type the announcement text. Keep it concise — announcements are limited to 250 characters. A character counter shows your remaining space.
  3. Choose a type
Select an announcement type. This appears as a prefix before your message (e.g. ALERT: Practice cancelled tonight). See Announcement Types below.
  4. Set the start date
Choose when the announcement becomes active. Leave it at the current time to publish immediately, or pick a future date and time to schedule it.
  5. Set the duration
Enter how long the announcement should remain active — for example, 7 days, 2 weeks, or 1 month. Enter 0 for no end date (the announcement stays up until you remove it manually). The default is 7 days.
  6. Choose notifications
Decide how to notify members when the announcement goes live. See Notifications below.
  7. Tap "Create Announcement"
The announcement is saved. If the start time is now (or in the past), it becomes active immediately. If scheduled, it will go live at the set time.

The type you choose appears as an all-caps prefix before the message text, making the nature of the announcement clear at a glance.

Scheduling & Duration

Scheduling for the future

Set a future start date and time to schedule an announcement in advance. The announcement won't be visible to members until that date — but it will appear in the Upcoming list in the Announcements admin view so you can track what's queued.

Duration

Duration controls when the announcement expires and is moved to the Past section.

Default duration is 7 days If you leave the duration field blank or at the default, the announcement will expire after 7 days.

Notifications

When creating or editing an announcement, you can choose how members are notified when it goes live.

OptionWhat it does
Push notificationSends a push notification to all group members' devices when the announcement becomes active
Email notificationSends an email to all group members when the announcement becomes active
SMS notificationSends an SMS to members who have verified phone numbers and SMS urgent announcements enabled in their group settings (availability may vary by plan)
NoneThe announcement appears on the home page and in the Announcements list, but no active notification is sent
Use notifications thoughtfully Push and email notifications go to every group member. For minor or low-priority notices, consider leaving notifications off — the announcement will still be visible on the group home page.

Editing & Deleting Admin

Editing

In the Announcements list, tap the edit icon (pencil) next to any announcement to update the text, type, duration, or notification settings. Changes take effect immediately.

Deleting

Tap the delete icon (trash) next to an announcement to remove it immediately. Deleted announcements are gone — they don't appear in the Past section.

Expiry vs. deletion An expired announcement (one that has passed its duration) moves to the Past section automatically and remains visible to admins. A deleted announcement is removed entirely.

Sharing to Chat

You can share any announcement directly into a group chat as a rich card. Members can tap the card to open the full announcement.

From the Announcements list or an announcement detail, tap Share to Chat and choose which chat to send it to.

Alternatively, admins can include an announcement in the Add to Chat attachment menu from within the chat itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can create announcements?

Only group owners, co-admins, and admins. Regular members can view announcements but cannot create, edit, or delete them.

How long does an announcement stay active?

Until the duration you set expires. The default is 7 days. Set the duration to 0 if you want the announcement to stay up until you manually remove it.

What's the character limit for announcements?

250 characters. Announcements are designed to be concise. For longer content, use Posts instead.

Can I schedule an announcement for the future?

Yes. Set the start date to any future date and time. The announcement won't be visible to members until that time, but it will show in the Upcoming list for admins.

Can members respond to or comment on announcements?

Not directly on the announcement itself. Share the announcement into chat if you want to open a discussion about it.

Can I send an announcement without notifying anyone?

Yes. Simply leave both the push and email notification options unchecked. The announcement will still appear on the group home page and in the Announcements list — members will see it when they next open the group.

What happens to announcements after they expire?

They move to the Past section in the Announcements list, where admins can still view them. They no longer appear on the group home page for regular members.
