Polls
Collect opinions, make group decisions, and get answers fast — with real-time results.
What are Polls?
Polls let you ask the group a question and collect votes on the options you provide. Results update in real time as votes come in, so you can see the group's preference quickly.
Polls are great for:
- Choosing a meeting time or event date
- Picking a venue, activity, or option from a list
- Gathering preferences before making a decision
- Quick yes/no decisions with the whole group
Finding Polls
Open Polls from your group's navigation. Use the filter tabs to browse:

Toggle between Full and Compact view using the view switcher at the top right of the poll list.
Each poll card shows:
- Poll title and question
- Status badge: Active, Upcoming, or Ended
- Whether live results are visible, multiple answers are allowed, or it's a private poll
- Time remaining (for active polls) or end date
Voting
- Tap a poll to open it.
- Read the question and review the options.
- Select your answer. For single-choice polls, tap one option. For multiple-choice polls, tick as many as apply.
- Tap Submit Vote.
Viewing Results
After you vote (or when the poll has ended), the results section appears. Each option shows:
- The number of votes it received
- A visual progress bar showing the percentage
- The total vote count across all options
Live results
If the poll creator enabled Show Live Results, you can see the vote count for each option even before you vote — while the poll is still active. This is optional; by default, results are hidden until after you vote or the poll ends.
Creating a Poll
- Open Polls and tap the + button.
- Enter a title — up to 50 characters. This is the short label for the poll card.
- Write your question — up to 250 characters. This is what members read and answer.
- Add your answer options — enter at least 2 options. Tap + Add Option to add more.
- Set the start and end times — when voting opens and when it closes.
- Configure options — see Poll Options below.
- Tap Create Poll.
Poll Options
When creating a poll, you can configure several options to control how the poll behaves:
Allow multiple answers
By default, members can only select one answer. Enable Allow Multiple Answers to let members tick more than one option — useful for questions like "Which days can you make it?"
Show live results
When enabled, members can see the current vote tallies before they vote (as well as after). When disabled, results are only shown after a member votes.
Private poll
A private poll hides the results from members — only the poll creator and admins can see them. Useful when you want unbiased input without members being swayed by what others chose.
Start and end times
Set when voting opens and when it automatically closes. Members see a countdown timer showing how long remains on an active poll. A reminder notification is sent when a poll is about to close.
Editing & Deleting
Editing
You can edit a poll before voting has started. Once the poll is active (even if no one has voted yet), the edit option is no longer available to prevent changing the question after members have seen it.
To edit: open the poll and tap the edit icon (pencil) in the header.
Deleting
Open the poll and tap the delete icon (trash) in the header. Deletion is permanent, including all votes already cast.
Sharing & Bookmarking
Share to chat
Share a poll into any group chat as a card showing the question and current tally. Members can tap the card to open the full poll and vote. Use the share icon on the poll, or share from the chat's attachment menu.
Bookmark
Tap the bookmark icon on a poll detail page to save it to your personal bookmarks. See the Bookmarks guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change my vote after submitting?
No. Once you've submitted your vote, it can't be changed. Think carefully before submitting, especially on single-choice polls.
Can I see who voted for what?
Polls in Grūps App are anonymous by design — the results show vote counts per option, but not which member voted for which option.
What happens when a poll closes?
The poll moves to the Past tab. Voting is disabled and the final results are visible. The poll remains accessible for anyone who wants to see the outcome.
How many options can a poll have?
A minimum of 2 options is required. The practical maximum is high enough to cover any normal decision. Keep in mind that polls with too many options can be harder for members to navigate.
Can I run a poll without an end time?
An end time is required when creating a poll — polls need a defined lifespan. If you want open-ended feedback, consider a Q&A subject instead.
Why can I see vote counts before I've voted?
The poll creator chose to enable "Show Live Results." This lets members see how others are leaning before they vote — useful in some contexts, and best left off when you want unbiased responses.
