Q&A
Organized subjects where members ask, answer, discuss, and share — with four modes to match your group's purpose.
What is Q&A?
Q&A organizes group knowledge into subjects — focused areas where members can post and respond to entries. Each subject has a mode that determines its purpose, what labels are used, and who can post what.
Subject Modes
When an admin creates a subject, they choose a mode. The mode controls the purpose, labels, and permissions throughout that subject. Each subject card in the list shows a mode badge.
| Mode | Purpose | Who posts entries | Who can reply | Accepted answer | Voting |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Help Desk | Members ask questions; designated responders answer | Any member | Configured per-subject (all, admins, role, or specific users) | Yes — asker or admin marks one answer | Optional (upvote + downvote) |
| Notice Board | Admin publishes notices or updates; members comment | Admins only | Any member | No | No |
| Feedback | Admin posts prompts; each member responds | Admins only | Any member | Yes — admin marks one response | No |
| Community Q&A | Open community forum — any member asks and answers | Any member | Any member | Yes — asker marks the accepted answer | Upvote only (no downvote) |
Finding Subjects
Open Q&A from your group's navigation. The page shows all available subjects as cards in a sidebar (desktop) or list (mobile).
Each subject card shows:
- The subject title and description
- A mode badge — Help, Notice Board, Feedback, or Community — indicating the subject type
- An Open count (amber) — shown for Help Desk, Feedback, and Community subjects when there are unanswered entries
Selecting a subject
On desktop, tap a subject card to open it in the panel on the right. On mobile, tap a card to open the full subject view.
Searching subjects
Use the search bar at the top of the subject list to filter subjects by title or description as you type.
Posting an Entry
The button label and form header depend on the subject's mode:
| Mode | Button | Who can post |
|---|---|---|
| Help Desk | Ask a Question | Any member |
| Notice Board | New Entry | Admins only |
| Feedback | New Prompt | Admins only |
| Community Q&A | Ask a Question | Any member |
- Open a subject.
- Tap the action button (e.g. Ask a Question) to expand the entry form.
- Type your entry (10–2,000 characters).
- Tap the submit button (e.g. Submit Question).
Replying
Open any entry to read it in full and post a reply. The reply form appears at the bottom of the expanded entry. Button labels adapt to the mode:
| Mode | Reply button | Who can reply |
|---|---|---|
| Help Desk | Post Answer | Configured per-subject (see below) |
| Notice Board | Add Comment | Any member |
| Feedback | Post Response | Any member |
| Community Q&A | Post Answer | Any member |
Who can reply in Help Desk mode
In Help Desk subjects, the admin configures who is allowed to answer questions. The setting is shown in the subject description area:
| Responder setting | Who can answer |
|---|---|
| All Members | Any group member |
| Admins Only | Group administrators only |
| Specific Role | Members with a designated role (e.g. moderator) |
| Selected Users | A specific list of members chosen by the admin |
Single-answer mode
Some Help Desk subjects allow only one answer per question. If a question already has an answer and you submit a new one, your answer replaces the existing one. A warning banner appears above the reply form when this applies.
Accepted Answers
In Help Desk, Feedback, and Community subjects, the appropriate person can mark one reply as the accepted answer. (Notice Board subjects do not have an accepted-answer concept.)
| Mode | Who can accept |
|---|---|
| Help Desk | The person who asked, or an admin |
| Feedback | Admins only |
| Community Q&A | The person who asked the question |
- The accepted reply is highlighted with a green Accepted badge.
- Only one reply per entry can be accepted at a time. Accepting a different reply removes the previous acceptance.
- The asker can also un-accept a reply by tapping the Accepted badge again.
Community Voting
Voting is available in Help Desk subjects (when configured) and is always active in Community Q&A subjects.
- Tap the ▲ upvote button to vote an answer up.
- In Help Desk (when voting is enabled), tap the ▼ downvote button to vote down. Community Q&A only allows upvoting — there is no downvote.
- Tap your existing vote again to remove it.
- The vote score is shown next to the arrows.
Filtering & Sorting
Filter tabs
Inside a subject, filter tabs narrow the entry list. The tab labels vary by mode:
| Mode | Tab 1 | Tab 2 | Tab 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Help Desk | All | Open | Answered |
| Notice Board | All | All | Commented |
| Feedback | All | Open | Responded |
| Community Q&A | All | Open | Answered |
Sort options
Use the sort dropdown to change the order entries appear:
- Newest — most recently posted first (default)
- Oldest — oldest entries first
- Unanswered first — entries with no replies appear at the top
- Top Voted — entries sorted by vote score (only available when voting is enabled)
Search
Use the search bar in the subject toolbar to filter entries by keyword. Results update as you type.
Pinned Entries Admin
Admins can pin important entries to keep them at the top of the list regardless of sort order or filter state. Pinned entries are marked with a Pinned badge.
To pin an entry: expand it and tap the pin icon in the entry actions. Tap again to unpin.
Notifications
You can subscribe to a subject to receive notifications when new entries are posted or new replies arrive.
- Tap the bell icon on the subject header to subscribe. The icon turns solid to indicate you are subscribed.
- Tap the bell-slash icon (when subscribed) to unsubscribe.
You can also subscribe at the entry level — tap the bell icon on an individual entry to receive notifications only for that entry's replies.
Bookmarks
Tap the bookmark icon on a subject or on an individual entry to save it to your personal bookmarks for quick access later. See the Bookmarks guide.
Editing & Deleting
Editing an entry
In Help Desk and Community modes, you can edit your own question only if no replies have been posted yet. In Notice Board and Feedback modes, admins can edit their own entry at any time. To edit: expand the entry and tap the edit icon (pencil).
Editing a reply
You can edit your own reply at any time, regardless of whether it has been accepted or voted on. Tap the edit icon (pencil) on your reply.
Deleting an entry
You can delete your own entry if you are the author. Admins can delete any entry. Tap the delete icon (trash) on the entry.
Deleting a reply
You can delete your own reply. Admins can delete any reply. Deleting an accepted reply removes the accepted status from that entry.
Admin: Managing Subjects Admin
Admins create and configure Q&A subjects. Tap the + button in the Q&A page header to create a new subject. Tap the gear icon to open Q&A Global Settings, where you can reorder, edit, and delete all subjects.
Global Settings
The Q&A Settings page lists all subjects in the group. From here you can:
- Reorder subjects — use the up/down arrows to change the order subjects appear in the list. Order is saved immediately.
- Edit a subject — tap the pencil icon to open the subject settings form.
- Delete a subject — tap the trash icon and confirm. All entries and replies in the subject are permanently removed.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is Q&A different from chat?
Chat messages scroll by and can be hard to find later. Q&A keeps entries organized, searchable, and structured — with clear replies attached to each entry. Use Q&A for information that needs to be easy to find and reference; use chat for real-time conversation.
Which mode should I choose for my subject?
Use Help Desk when members ask questions and designated people answer — good for support or FAQs. Use Notice Board when you want to publish announcements and let members comment — like a bulletin board. Use Feedback when you post a prompt and want one response per member — good for surveys or check-ins. Use Community Q&A for open forums where anyone asks and anyone answers, with upvoting to surface the best responses.
Can I ask a question anonymously?
No. Questions and answers are attributed to your group profile. Your name and avatar appear on everything you post.
Why can't I edit my question?
In Help Desk and Community modes, once the first reply has been posted your entry is locked to avoid changing the context after someone has already responded. If you need to update it, delete the entry and post a new one (this also removes existing replies).
What's the difference between Single Answer and Multiple Answers?
In Multiple Answers mode (Help Desk only), any number of people can post answers and all are visible. In Single Answer mode, only the most recent answer is kept — submitting a new one replaces the previous one. Single Answer is useful when a definitive, up-to-date answer matters more than a collection of perspectives.
Can I change a subject's mode after it has entries?
Yes. You can update the mode at any time from the subject settings. All existing entries and replies will be relabeled to match the new mode. The content itself is not changed.
