Photo Albums
Create albums, upload photos, and share your group's best moments — with reactions, comments, and tagging.
Overview
Photo Albums give your group a dedicated space to share images — organized into albums so you can find them later. Albums can be linked to events, sorted by date or location, and shared with the whole group in seconds.
Browsing Albums
Open Photos (or Albums) from your group's navigation. Albums are displayed as cards with a cover photo, album name, photo count, and creation date.
The albums list can be sorted and filtered. Use the controls at the top to sort by date or title, or filter by album date range.
Viewing Photos
Tap any album to open it. Photos are displayed in a grid. Tap a photo to open it in the lightbox — a full-screen view with navigation arrows to move between photos.
In the lightbox, you can:
- Swipe left and right (mobile) or use arrow keys (desktop) to navigate between photos
- Read the photo caption (if one was added)
- React to the photo with an emoji
- View and add comments (availability may vary by plan)
- See AI-suggested tags
- Download the individual photo
Slideshow
View an album as an automatic slideshow — perfect for a group gathering or showing off event photos on a big screen.
Tap the presentation icon in the album header to start the slideshow. Photos advance automatically with a smooth transition. Tap anywhere or press Escape to stop.
Creating an Album
- Open Photos and tap the + button.
- Name the album — e.g. "Summer Trip 2025" or "Finals Night".
- Add a description (optional) — a short note about what the album contains.
- Set a date (optional) — the date or date range for the album, for sorting and reference.
- Add a location (optional) — where the photos were taken.
- Link to an event (optional) — connect the album to a calendar event. A chip appears on the album linking back to the event.
- Tap Create Album. The album is created and you can start uploading photos.
Uploading Photos
From inside an album, tap the Upload button or the upload tile at the end of the photo grid.
- Select one or multiple photos from your device's camera roll.
- Photos are uploaded and appear in the grid immediately.
- An upload tile at the end of the grid is always available so you can add more photos later.
Setting a cover photo
The album cover is the image shown on the album card in the main albums list. To set a cover photo: hover over (desktop) or long-press (mobile) a photo in the grid, then tap the star icon to set it as the preview image.
Captions
Add a caption to any photo to give it context. Captions appear below the photo in the grid and in the lightbox.
To add or edit a caption: hover over or tap the photo in the grid, then tap the pencil icon. Type your caption and save.
Reactions
React to any photo with an emoji. Open a photo in the lightbox, and tap the reaction option to choose your emoji. The reaction count appears when you're viewing the photo.
The photo uploader receives a notification when someone reacts to their photo.
Comments
Depending on your plan, members can leave text comments on individual photos. Comments appear in the lightbox view below the photo.
- Open a photo in the lightbox.
- Tap Comments to expand the comments section.
- Type your comment and tap Post.
Member Tagging
Depending on your plan, members can be tagged in photos. Tags identify who's in the photo and link to their group profile.
Tap the tag option in the lightbox to add member tags. Select from the group's member list. Tagged members are notified.
AI Tags
Grūps App can automatically suggest tags for photos based on what's in the image — people, places, objects, and activities. AI tag suggestions appear in the lightbox and can be accepted or dismissed.
AI tagging is an opt-in feature controlled in the group settings.
Downloading
Download a single photo
Open a photo in the lightbox and tap the download icon. The photo is saved to your device.
Download an entire album
Tap the download icon in the album header to download all photos as a ZIP file. A progress indicator shows how far along the download is for large albums.
Sharing
Share album to chat
Tap the share icon in the album header to share the album into a group chat as a card. Members tap the card to open the album.
Copy album link
Tap the link icon in the album header to copy a direct link to the album. Share it anywhere — the recipient needs to be a group member to view it.
Bookmark
Tap the bookmark icon on an album to save it to your personal bookmarks. See the Bookmarks guide.
All Photos & Photos of Me
All Photos
Tap the grid icon in the Albums page header to see every photo across all albums in one big grid — sorted by date, newest first. Useful for finding a recent photo without knowing which album it's in.
Photos of Me
Tap the person icon in the Albums page header to see all photos where you've been tagged. Requires member tagging to be available on your plan.
Managing Albums Admin
Admins (and the album creator) can edit and delete albums.
Editing an album
Tap the pencil icon in the album header to rename it, change the description, update the date or location, or change the linked event.
Deleting a photo
In the photo grid, tap the trash icon that appears when you hover or long-press a photo. Deleting a photo removes it permanently from the album.
Deleting an album
Open the album, tap Edit, and choose Delete Album. Deleting an album removes the album and all its photos permanently.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many photos can I upload to an album?
The limit depends on your group's plan. Your current usage (albums used and photos per album limit) is shown at the top of the Albums page.
Can I upload videos?
Grūps App Albums currently supports photos (images) only. For video sharing, upload the file to the Files section or share a link in chat.
Who can create albums?
By default, any group member can create an album. Admins can restrict this in the group settings.
Who can upload to an existing album?
Any member can upload to any album unless the admin has restricted uploads. Only the album creator and admins can delete photos or edit the album details.
Can I link a photo album to a specific event?
Yes. When creating or editing an album, use the "Link to Event" option to connect it to a calendar event. A chip appears on the album linking back to the event, making it easy to find photos from that event.
Are photos private to the group?
Yes. Photos in Grūps App albums are only visible to members of the group. They are not publicly accessible.
